Take a glimpse inside a large polo barn in Bolivia.

In Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, Estudio Balzano took on the challenge of designing and building a polo club for a family of polo players. The stable was designed as more than a place to care for horses—it also serves as a clubhouse where polo, family, and friends come together. Daily equestrian life and social gatherings seamlessly share the same space, allowing the stable to be a meeting place.
One of the biggest project challenges was finding the right location for the stable on the grounds. It needed to have a close proximity to the polo field, offering nice views of the game. It also needed the right orientation to protect the horses from the weather, ensuring their comfort and well-being.

This large-scale stable houses 32 stalls and multiple tack rooms throughout.

Architecturally, the building has a strong presence, defined by its large scale and a composition of varied roof volumes that distinguish the project’s different functions and uses. The interior spaces are thoughtfully organized to allow comfort and movement, with generous corridors, dedicated service areas, and all the necessary amenities for the stable to operate efficiently.

Home to La Candela Polo Club, the environment is tranquil for the horses and humans.

Natural light and ventilation were fundamental elements of the project. The spaces were designed to provide the right conditions of temperature, lighting and air circulation, always prioritizing the health and safety of the horses.

Spacious barn aisles allow for movement and skylights overhead let light fill the stables.

Thank you to Estudio Balzano for sharing this project with Stable Style.
