What happens when your barn is full and you “accidentally” buy two more horses? You make more room of course.
Last year I featured DarkHorse, a stunning equestrian property in Connecticut. At the time of the tour, the above barn was used for hay and shavings storage. Now it’s home to DarkHorse’s latest lucky equine residents. This two-stall barn project was handled by Sequoia Contracting. The entire project took six weeks to complete, including the installation of all the finishes.
To keep the barn cool in the summer, Sequoia Contracting installed a ridge vent and used rigid insulation on the ceiling joists before finishing the ceiling.
The finishes were kept consistent with the main barn. This includes tongue and groove bead board on the ceiling painted Benjamin Moore Classic Grey. Random width knotty pine was installed on the walls. Sequoia Contracting used white pickling stain plus two coats of water based polyurethane as a finish.
The stalls are each 14′ x 13′, the center aisle is 10′ wide and 14′ long. The entire barn dimensions are 14′ wide by 36′ long. The beautiful stall fronts are custom designed and manufactured by Classic Equine. The black powder coated fold-down blanket bars and bridle hooks are from Lucas Equine.
The stall fans are from Amberway Equine and offer variable speed control.
All interior and exterior lighting fixtures are from Barn Light Electric. There are flush mount fixtures in the stalls and center aisle. The center aisle has two sconces on either side of the window, plus there are two exterior light fixtures in either side of the barn door.
