Last week I introduced to you to the gorgeous equestrian fine art by Erin Kate. This week I’m thrilled to be able to share a tour of Erin’s amazing horse property in Park City, Utah.
Erin and her husband are Southern California natives, but her husband’s work brought them to Salt Lake City 13 years ago. While living in Salt Lake, they enjoyed spending their free time in nearby Park City skiing, biking, and taking in nature. Park City also offered more space for horses (Erin was boarding her horse Austin in Salt Lake and was excited at the idea of having him at home). In 2014 they found their current property and began to build in 2015.
The stable has a simple pole barn design. Inside there are four 12×12 stalls with heated Nelson auto-waterers, a tack room, a wash stall with hot and cold water, and a large storage area.
The black stall kits are by Barn Pros and the wood was kept natural and sealed clear.
Park City temperatures in the winter can be frigid, but the barn is also heated with a Sunstar heater from FarmTek.
One of Erin’s favorite barn features (besides the heater) are the gray rubber pavers from Innovative Equestrian System that she installed herself.
“I love how quiet they are when walked on and I love the cushion they provide the horses,” explains Erin.
The pavers are easy to clean and the gray hides the dirt very well. The barn is kept meticulously clean thanks to good habits of daily cleaning in the morning.
Erin painted the tack room door the same color charcoal as their chicken coop and uses black details to keep things looking modern. The tack room is the same color as their home’s exterior.
The tack room is neat and organized, it can serve as an inspiration for many equestrians.
The black saddle racks and hooks are from Dover Saddlery. The wrought iron brackets and wood shelf are leftover from their kitchen. They are perfect for holding Breyer horses from Erin’s childhood.
Black and white never looked so good. Erin shares a little bit of her barn and style inspiration below.
“The interior of our home is bright and light with white walls, gray doors, black finishes, white oak floors, and reclaimed wood details. I wanted our barn to be an extension of our home. I wanted it to feel cozy and inviting but modern and bright.
During the building process I came across Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi’s Santa Monica ranch property in Elle Decor Magazine. I loved how they incorporated beautiful furniture and art into their horse barn. The decor added character and was so inviting. I also loved the white and black interior of the barn. Their barn definitely served as inspiration for our barn but on a less grand scale!”
A chilly, but beautiful view of the mountains, the elevation here is 7,000′. The horses go outside each day during the winter and are out 24/7 in the summer.
The newly built loafing sheds provide shelter from the winter elements.
While riding out in the snow is fun on occasion, an indoor arena was a must for winter. The steel structure is strong and can withstand loads of snow and strong gusts of wind. The black metal siding from Allied Steel absorbs heat on a sunny winter day, heating the space a little bit warmer.
The arena footing is Premier Equestrians’ Arena Aid.
