Solaris Equestrian is located in Alberta, Canada and is owned by the Levasseur family. A huge thank you goes out to the Levasseurs for sharing your beautiful facility with us!
The barn was originally built in 1980 by Mark Laskin, the chef d’equipe of the Canadian Show Jumping Team and was, at one point, the home to most of the Canadian Equestrian Team at the time, including the Legendary Big Ben.
The barn had become run down as time passed and it needed some major renovations after being purchased in 2017.
The barn has 19 stalls, one wash bay, two grooming stalls and 25 lockers in a spa-like tack room.
Lots of planning and thinking of the future went into the stable’s design.
“The entire barn was focused around making the staff’s routine jobs as low maintenance as possible as well as the look and care of a high end facility to make clients confident in their horse’s care when they can’t be there and proud of the facility that they have chosen for their horses.”
Each stall has soft mats, automatic waterers and removable stainless steel feed bowl on swivel feeders. The Nelson feeders are stainless steel which makes it easy to remove the bowl, clean and dis-infect the feeders a few times per week.
The barn was gutted entirely and is wrapped in douglas fir walls that were stained to appear cedar. The gorgeous, custom 10′ x 12′ stalls were built by System Fencing and installed by Zee Tee Enterprises of Nanton, Alberta.
The barn and arena has been switched over to new LED lighting, making the space a bright and cheery place to live, even in the winter months when the temperatures drop to -25 celcius and the horses have to stay indoors.
This is the blanket room. It’s perfect place for blankets to air dry and the baskets are meant for holding turnout boots and fly spray for each horse.
The tack room at Solaris is spectacular. It features 25 6’9″ lockers with beautiful Alder doors, three chandeliers, a pullout saddle rack, bottle rack, drawers as well as two large shelves. Each locker is equipped with motion detected lighting when the door is opened along with a programmable, touch keypad lock. The tack room also boasts a heated floor and full length mirrors on each end.
The two large grooming stalls have interlocking brick, no slip flooring, plus a Solarium in each stall and fold away saddle racks. The Solarium is perfect for drying horses off or warming up your horse’s back before a ride.
The kitchen is a wonderful place for clients to enjoy a meal or for parents to watch their kids ride. Chandeliers, a fireplace and complimentary coffee make it a homey and welcoming environment.
This pup knows in front of the fire is a cozy place to land.
No detail is too big or small for Solaris. The facility is equipped with a fantastic stereo system throughout, including four speakers along the barn alleyway and eight in the indoor arena. The system is also implemented with bluetooth for clients to pick their own music to ride to, along with internet radio and a wireless headset for lesson and clinicians.
It’s very important to keep the air quality at a high level for horses and riders.
“We have installed a large de-humidification system throughout the barn and indoor arena courtesy of Janssen Energy Technology Inc. that completely eliminates the condensation in the winter time to prevent mold and keep the air healthy and clean to breathe.”
This is the massive outdoor arena. It’s large enough to be split into two rings and can fit a show sized jumper course with natural obstacles as well.
