With a focus on design and decor, this custom tack room is a tranquil space.
Merethe and Jan Erik Jensen moved from Norway to Sweden in December of 2021. They are currently in the middle of renovating a large horse property on Løkholmen in Sweden. The family’s private barn currently has 10 box stalls and this beautiful newly renovated tack room. Other amenities include an outdoor arena, walker and soon, a large indoor arena.
Merethe enjoys casually spending time with the horses, but her daughter Mia Marlene Jensen is a professional show jumper, who travels with her horses. The Jensen family’s recent relocation allowed Mia Marlene to move all her horses home to the farm. Mia started riding at age eight. After graduating from college with a degree in international marketing and economics, she decided to pursue a full-time career with horses.
Merethe loves her time at the barn and has a passion for interior design and styling. The barn’s tack room was recently completed, Merethe is thrilled with how the 25sqm (270 sq ft) space turned out. She appreciates the beauty of design found in nature, art, Instagram and magazines.
“I find inspiration everywhere around me— I just have to know where to look and step outside my normal boundaries of creating and designing. The essence is always about people and how they live.”
The wooden horse head is handmade in the Netherlands from Am-Art.
Two of Merethe’s favorite pieces include the old design chair from Denmark, purchased at an auction in Oslo and an old mirror from her grandparents (hanging by the saddle stand).
The tack room features custom solid wood cabinets built by a local carpenter. The key to keeping a tidy tack room is having a dedicated place for everything.
Dark parquet flooring offers an elegant look in the tack room, even the bridle hooks are aesthetically pleasing.
Mimmi enjoys resting in the comfortable chair.
