This isn’t your average indoor riding arena.
Čapí Hnízdo is located in the Czech Republic. In 2006 SGL Projekt was asked to design and restore this 19th century farmstead that had been abandoned in the 80s. Fast forward to today, the property is now a luxury resort for retreats, personal vacations, and corporate events.
One of the most celebrated property renovations is the unique riding arena. Storks lived on the property since 1926, they return every spring from their winter homes in Africa. The birds played a huge role in the property’s name and design motive. The nest of the returning stork was a symbol, it became the inspiration for the riding arena.
An overhead view of the property. It’s located on a wide open space surrounded by meadows, ponds, and wetlands. The resort’s primary objective was to create a unique place that guests would want to return, just like the storks. This special space is a place to spend time in harmony with nature and the surrounding area.
Glulam timber beams make up the support structure and the external covering is made from translucent polycarbonate. The oak logs provide shade and look very impressive.
The arena has good airflow and natural ventilation from the central sky-light above.
The arena was completed in 2010 and is one of its most talked about attractions. The property also has a large rectangle riding arena.
