A Closer Look at Stephex Stables in Belgium

Stephex Stables is a very special place.

Stephex Stables is located in the charming countryside of Meise, Belgium. The infamous show jumping facility was founded 35 years ago by Stephan Conter, founder and CEO of the Stephex Group. It all started back in 1986 when Stephan decided to start a small trading stable, initially located in Londerzeel. He moved to Meise a year later to five hectare equestrian complex that he would subsequently enlarge. By then, Stephex was selling over 1,200 jumping horses a year around the world. The Conter family remains very active in the business today and both Stephan’s daughters, Emilie and Zoe are riders at the stables.

Stephex Stables has grown to be a well known name across Europe for its breeding, sale horses and horse shows hosted at Stephex. Today Stephex has 500 employees and is the home of Olympic champions. A successful entrepreneur, Stephan launched his own horse truck company in 2005, which was a major accomplishment. Stephex horse trucks has several brands to its name including; STX Horseboxes and STX 2 Horses, Equix, AKX and Ketterer.

In 2013, Stephan dove into the international equestrian competition circuit by organizing two 5 star events; Knokke Hippie and the Brussels Stephex Masters as part of a unique concept. Stephan’s drive and work ethic is impressive. His philosophy says:

“Dreaming without action is meaningless!”

The property consists of a series of beautiful buildings, all equipped with state-of-the-art amenities. With so many features to list, Stable Style highlights a few and shares a series of gorgeous photos capturing this impressive horse property.

The main barn features 82 box stalls surrounding an arena, 6 tack stalls, 12 grooming areas, a client lounge, 3 offices and a fitness area. There are five additional stables on the property with varying numbers of stalls. There are apartments in each barn, ensuring caretakers are not far from the horses they are looking after.

Other notables include a heliport, several outdoor arenas, lush turnouts, 3 horse walkers, a water treadmill, salt water spa and a spacious tw0-story office building.

Arena and Riding Areas

Stephex has a total of three indoor riding arenas on the property (with another arena currently being planned). Each one is equipped with pristine footing and features a beautiful design that allows plenty of natural light to enter.
