Is your barn missing something? Try adding some nice equine art to your walls.
A couple of years ago on Stable Style, I featured Steffie Hornig’s beautiful art here for the first time. Fast forward a couple years and Steffie has experienced a lot of growth as an artist. Her business has been expanding and Steffie has achieved some major milestones along the way. She had her first solo-exhibition, relaunched her website with new branding and launched a stationery collection featuring her art.

It’s hard to pick out just one favorite piece of art, but Steffie is partial to a particular series.
“One of my favorites is the ‘Bit by Bit’ series. It’s a series of several square paintings that crop on the mouth of the horse. I love how with the crop format you can help the mind of the observer to focus on the main area; in this case the unique connection between horse and rider and the choice of bit as a symbol for their connection and communication.”
Steffie offers custom commissions of all sizes. While she mainly works from photographs, Steffie will gladly visit her subject if she has the opportunity.
“I aspire to represent the character of the horse and not just portray a moment. For that I need to get a feeling for the horse, its details and moods.”
The time it takes for each commission will depend on the size of the canvas and quality of her reference photos. It can take around ten hours to paint a 40 x 50cm portrait. As an artist, Steffie is constantly perfecting her skills, taking each new painting as an opportunity to hone in on a new skill.
“With every artwork I make, I learn and see new aspects,” Steffie said. “I consider myself a lifelong learner. In order to grow in my main medium, acrylic paints, I have also worked with several other media such as pencil, digital, graphite and watercolor. I strive to use these studies in order to learn even more about composition, color use and dimensions.”
Here, Steffie’s stunning paintings are captured inside the barn of Stephex Stables in Belgium.
Add a painting of your favorite horse in your tack room or create a beautiful gallery wall.
