An old yellow 1940s shed is transformed with thoughtful planning.
Obsessed with horses her entire life, Cara Fox is thrilled to share the equestrian experience with her two daughters from the comfort of their backyard. Cara didn’t start riding until college and appreciates the special bond she’s been able to form and share with the horses at home. An experienced and successful background in architecture and design allowed Cara and her husband Tom of The Fox Group to turn a basic yellow shed into a dreamy space for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Design inspiration for this Utah barn was pulled from a recent trip to England after exploring Windsor and the Blenheim Palace. Influenced by European luxury and Cara’s love for classic spaces, the elegant barn is unlike any other. Stunning chandeliers, bright white stall fronts and checkered flooring enhances the design. The renovations took about nine months to complete, keeping the original shed footprint of approximately 36’x28′.
The barn features five custom stalls made by Saratoga Stalls. Initially it was a challenge to figure out the spacing for each stall, but everything came together beautifully in the end.
The barn has black and gray rubber flooring in a checkerboard pattern, offering a safe and aesthetically pleasing design.
The finished barn is warm and inviting. The chandeliers are from The Fox Shop. One of the challenges with the renovation was rewiring the lighting, the entire electrical system and replumbing the drains.
Framed photos of the girls and their beloved horses make a nice gallery wall above the tack trunks.
Tack Room
Most of the hooks and accessories are sourced from a local tack shop in Utah.
Outdoor Spaces
Thoughtful landscaping and topiary horses frame the entrance to turnout.
A mature Weeping Willow tree makes a lovely focal point in turnout.
