A Shed Row Courtyard Style Barn in South Carolina

A barn by Blackburn Architects with a clean design.

Affectionately called Ketchen Place in Rock Hill, South Carolina, this private barn is perfect for the climate’s mild weather. It’s situated on 50 sprawling acres with plenty of room for horses. Along with 20 stalls, the barn includes seven day storage for hay and bedding, wash and grooming stalls, a foaling stall, farm office/tack room and miscellaneous tool and equipment storage. There is also a second floor guest apartment that can double as a warm room during foaling season. Another remote barn is located on the property for main hay storage along with pastures.

Blackburn designed this barn to be very simple and durable. It’s constructed from painted concrete block with simple southern yellow pine wood framing and galvanized corrugated metal roofing.

This shed row courtyard style barn is reminiscent to the same style of the historic barns of Camden and Aiken, South Carolina.

A set of cross ties are located here at the edge of the barn.

The stall gates are by Lucas Equine. Airflow can easily circulate through the front and back of the stalls thanks to the mesh metal design.

Hanging baskets with a pop of colorful flowers and ferns draw your eyes towards the simple, but stunning structure.
