Winter Farm is a private facility recently completed by Blackburn Architects in the spring of 2017. It’s located just outside of Park City, Utah.
The land and climate presented some initial challenges for the architects. Part of the site is a protected wetland area subject to seasonal weather extremes. It can be sunny and 70 degrees one day, 30 degrees and snowing the next. Blackburn addressed these challenges with design features and created an irrigation pond to prevent flooding on the property.
The barn features 10 stalls, an amazing tack room, lounge, apartment, foaling station, mounting area, indoor arena, and vehicle storage. There are several paddocks, a jump field, and a gallop trail surrounding the property.
The gorgeous black metal stall fronts are by Lucas Equine. They compliment the black doors and metal details throughout the barn.
Height restrictions limited the ceiling of this stunning indoor arena to 25′. As a solution, heavy beams were added to support the roof span and insure stability under major snow loads.
Heavy snowfall often occurs in the area so Blackburn constructed wide overhanging roofs to safely disperse snow build-up.
The tack room is a spectacular space. I love the saddle racks, they are functional and beautiful.
The large rug, table, stools, and farmhouse sink give the space a modern and industrial feeling.
Thank you Blackburn Architects for sharing this wonderful project.

HI, love most of this stable but that black floor looks slippery (gorgeous) what is it made of?

Hi, so these are actually rubber mats! They are either loose laid but tight to the concrete curb on each side to hold them in place or they could have been glued down (but unlikely) because the concrete curb eliminates the need to glue them down.
