This private horse barn is situated on 10 acres of land along with an arena, round pen and family home. Classified as an urban ranch, the property is within a 20 minus drive to downtown Tucson. The stable was designed and built by Calisto Homes in 2019.
Tucson’s hot and dry climate influenced the barn’s overall structure. The stable was designed and positioned on the land to take advantage of natural air circulation. The center concrete aisle was left open to assist with the airflow. A Big Ass Fan is centrally located in the aisle to push air throughout the barn.
The barn’s custom steel post structure has rough cut timber cross beams, a roof structure and a stucco exterior with wood fascia. The roof utilizes Mediterranean style tiles.
The stable was designed to match the Desert Modern/Mediterranean style of the main house located on the property. Visit calistohomes.com/projects and browse the project titled Tortolita Mountain Home to see house photos.
The outdoor wash area is setup on a concrete pad with metal posts and cross ties.
The stable’s custom dutch doors were made on site. They are metal and painted black. The barn’s storage room features a large exterior garage door for easy unloading of feed and supplies. The door matches the garage doors on the home.
The ceilings in the barn are 28′ above the center aisle and 24′ above the stalls. The barn is equipped with automatic waterers, Wifi and a Sonos Sound control with speakers and cameras.
There are custom sliding barn doors on the tack room and storage room located at the front of the barn.
Stunning Stall Fronts
The uniquely stall fronts were designed by Calisto Homes. Nothing was pre-fabricated and all of the metal and woodwork was done on site.
The six-stall barn barn has a storage room and tack room located at the front of the barn. The spacious interior stalls are 12’x24′. The individual runs beyond the dutch doors are 12’x24′.
One of the biggest project challenges was designing and building the horse stall floors using rail road ties. They were designed to have a built in leach field under them for easy cleaning of the stalls and accommodate any type of bedding.
The spacious tack room was designed to have the highest degree of flexibility and ease of access to needs for grooming, medicine, gear and office setup. It offers the owners a blank canvas to store all of their tack and more.
