A Hudson Valley Horse Farm with Smart Design

This upstate New York property was thoughtfully designed for all seasons.

Ariel view of Winley Farms in upstate New York

Winley Farm is a pristine, private hunter jumper facility focusing on breeding and training. Completed in 2002 by Blackburn Architects, the lush and scenic property is home to two horse barns with 40 stalls total, an enclosed arena and hot walker, plus apartments for guests and staff members. Located in Millbrook, New York on 155 acres, the surroundings for this farm are absolutely breathtaking. Within the barns there are vet and farrier areas, a tack room, farm office and washing and grooming stalls.

An Impressive Indoor Arena

Indoor arena lounge and viewing area

The observation area is elevated approximately two feet above the riding surface. It has heat and air conditioning, along with a full kitchen. It’s perfect for hosting events at the barn.

Stunning indoor arena designed by Blackburn Architects

The arena is just over 100′ x 200′ and is filled with performance footing that doesn’t require irrigation. Designed to be pleasing to the eyes and functional, the unique steel framing offers a full 180 degree viewing of the interior riding surface – with minimal obstruction by steel structures. Roll-up glass garage doors surround the arena, in the warmer months they are opened. The arena is wrapped with SIP panels (structurally insulated panels) that help regulate the temperature during the colder months.

The arena also has a contained area for indoor parking, large enough for a horse trailer to pull through, plus storage for a generator, jumps, tack trunks, the tractor with drag and miscellaneous equipment.

Winters in this region often come with lots of heavy snowfall. The farm is designed with wide overhangs and steep, heavy duty, asphalt shingle roofs to handle the snow. All of the buildings are connected so they are easy to access during extreme weather conditions.
