Klagshamn’s Equestrian Center is located in Sweden. This stunning facility was built by FOJAB arkitekter in 2015. It’s located within a close proximity next to sandy beaches that are perfect for riding. I’m envious at the very thought of going for a nice ride on the beach in Sweden.
I also love the story about the land this equestrian oasis was built on. The old Klagshamn’s Equestrian Center was located in a former concrete plant. When the city of Malmö decided it was time for a new equestrian center they decided to keep it in the same location. They also turned the demolished ruins on the concrete plant into a park. I always get a little sad when you see abandoned buildings, it’s amazing that they were able to turn something old into something new again.
All photos are by Felix Gerlach and again, the project was completed by FOJAB arkitekte. Keep on scrolling to see more of this amazing space.
Here are the stalls within the one of the main buildings. Perforated sheet metal was used throughout the building for several reasons – it provides natural ventilation, daylight, views in and out, and sound absorption. Plus it’s cost-effective.
This gorgeous riding arena lets in plenty of natural light and has high ceilings.
Brick from the former buildings were used in parts of the stables and riding arena. Talk about beautiful recycling. Concrete, glue-laminated wood, and brick are tough materials. They were selected because over time they will age gracefully and be extremely durable.

I’lll leave you with a final photo of the arena at nighttime. It’s simply stunning. It feels industrial and modern but has come a long way from being an abandoned concrete plant.

Beautiful, but do you think the horses think it’s beautiful. Looks like they get to live in wonderful cages. Doesn’t look like much fun to be a horse in that awesome barn next to the beach!
