The Best Fly Spray: 18 Ways to Tackle Summer Pests

Fly season is coming back. Get ready to battle pesky flies of all shapes and sizes. Luckily we have fly spray on our side. Find the perfect formula for your horse below. While I haven’t personally tried all these, I’ll give you notes on the ones that I have used with success.

the best fly spray for summer

1. Bronco Citronella Scent Fly Spray, one gallon – $30.22 – From personal experience, this spray is what I would call “medium strength” it works, but it’s not the strongest formula.

2. Absorbine UltraShield, one gallon – $63.25

3. Pyranha Wipe N Spray – $55.09 – This is a strong fly spray that I highly recommend. I use it here in the summer and it works, end of story.

4. Calm Coat Fly Spray for Dogs and Horses – $19.99

5. Farnam Endure Sweat-Resistant Fly Repellent – $24

6. Farnam Equicare Flysect Citronella Spray – $27.69

7. Equi-Spa Peppermint Summer Protection – $24 – A delightful scent for summer. It’s a mild fly spray for the beginning or end of fly season.

8. Whole Horse Equine Fly Spray – $24.99 – I’ve used and loved this spray! I’ll be stocking up on this again. It’s a natural fly spray that actually works!

9. Farnam SWAT fly ointment – $10.29 – A classic tack room staple for pesky flies on the belly.

10. ECOVET Repellent (made with food grade fatty acids) – $18.50 – I haven’t tried this one but the reviews say it works well!

11. Absorbine Ultrashield – $23.99 – A smaller version of the gallon formula above. Generally I always recommend trying out a fly spray before buying a larger quantity.

12. Bronco Citronella Fly Spray – $12.19 – Again, from previous experience I would consider this to be a lower quality spray. It’s cheaper but you will use more.

13. Repel-X pe Fly Spray – $30

14. Farnam Roll-on Fly Repellent for horses and dogs – $8.51

15. Espree Aloe Herbal Fly Repellent – $11.18

16. Pyranha Zero-Bite Natural Insect Repellent – $34.66

17. EQyss Premier Marigold Scent – $16.61 – This is a mild fly deterrent, it’s marketed as a coat shine and natural bug repellent.

18. Absorbine UltraShield Green Fly Repellent – $22.19
