This adorable barn maximizes airflow with its open floor plan.
When Heather Avant and Justin Suggs of Little Coconut Builders were hired to design and build a new barn, they faced strict parameters set by the client’s homeowners association (HOA). All additional structures on the property had to match the existing house’s style. Heather drew inspiration from the home’s aesthetic to create a modern two-stall barn with a loft, feed and tack room, and a 36′ x 84′ porch. The project took just under a year to complete, including time spent waiting for permits, with the actual construction taking only six months.

The modern barn has a spacious porch area covering the stalls.
The barn’s open structure allows air to flow freely through the barn with a wide overhang to shield from stormy conditions.
Barn Interior
The ceiling features black painted wood framing that contrasts with the elegant European stall fronts.
The custom stalls from Rockin J Equine feature Bedding Blockers installed in each stall to prevent excess shavings from spilling out into the aisle.
Each stall has a personal fan, while one large fan sits centered under the porch.
Turnout will be added right off of the barn with new fencing that will connect to the existing fence property fence.
Feed & Tack Room
The first-level feed and tack room is air-conditioned with grain storage center positioned under the stairs, with a sturdy butcher block top. Custom pipe shelving, designed by Little Coconut Builders, provides ample storage space.
The tack room is equipped with saddle racks, bridle hooks, and swing out saddle pad racks.
Loft
The upstairs loft serves as a hangout space for the client’s horse-loving daughter, for whom the barn was constructed.
