Plantation Oaks Farms is a wedding venue and one of the oldest working farms in Florida.
Situated in the quiet town of Callahan, Florida, this piece of the Mizell-Hodges Estate is a farm and wedding venue. Originally purchased in 1933 by Walter and Helen Hodges, Amy Mizell’s great grandparents, the property has been through many changes over the years. In the 1960s, the farm was a large hatchery, focused on raising chickens. The farm even provided over 300 chickens for filming the movie, Smokey and the Bandit Part 3 in Fort Lauderdale. Fast forward through the years and Amy took over the north eastern half of the farm and began building her dream horse farm in 1999.

After attending college at Texas Tech University and Auburn University studying Animal Science Business, Amy returned to Florida in 2005 and expanded operations to include horse boarding, training and raising Paint Horses with the help of her maternal grandfather, Charles Brooks. Amy met her husband, Kevin Green, in March of 2007 and they married in March 2008. They welcomed their first and only child, Colt, in June of 2009. After briefly leasing the farm out in 2012 to focus on her son, Amy took the farm back over in 2013 and renamed it Plantation Oaks Farms to appeal to a wider variety of equestrians. In 2014, the farm expanded once again with the new air conditioned rustic event barn. One of the farm’s newest additions was this beautiful 14-stall horse barn built in 2020.
Amy used Morton Buildings for the new horse barn. They assembled, framed and put down the concrete for the new structure, leaving a blank slate on the interior where Amy added a touch of European elegance.
A local contractor was hired to finish up the interior of the barn which features stained, pressure treated yellow pine and rustic beams throughout.
The center aisle is composed of stamped concrete. The stalls are RAMM Fence’s designer Tuscany stalls all equipped with ThuroBed Mattress Systems. The barn’s footprint has enough space for 22 12′ x 12′ stalls but the barn is thoughtfully divided and includes a feed room, tack room space, grooming area, wash rack, laundry room and restrooms.
The chandeliers in the barn are from Wayfair and the rest of the lights were purchased on Amazon.
Outdoor Spaces
While only Amy’s son is showing at the moment, Amy was actively a competitor on the APHA circuit, focusing on pleasure, hunt seat, equitation, halter, showmanship and all around classes. They have 6 horses and 4 miniatures on the property. The horses often make background appearances for the wedding guests.
The farm utilizes RAMM’s Flex fence in white. Amy loves the durability, ease of installation and ability to move the fence if necessary.
Thank you RAMM Fence and Plantation Oaks Farms for sharing this tour on Stable Style.
